Ed Hilario, CFC Flame Ministry Area Coordinator dynamically opened the rally by leading a spirit-filled worship, followed by artistic chants of the different family ministries:
- The Handmaids of the Lord (HOLD) echoed their train chant before the crowd while raising their yellow balloons.
- Youth for Christ (YFC) with their Couple Coordinators’ green St .Patrick hats sang their chant in the tune of “We Will Rock You”.
- The youngest ministry, Kids For Christ (KFC), with their red banners and red balloons, rapped their chant with one of their YFC Core members on stage.
- The CFC Northeast Region (Richmond Hill, Aurora, Vaughan, Durham) marched like soldiers as they carried out their march-like-drum chant, proudly raising their white balloons and white flag lets.
- The New CFC Hamilton Region (Kitchener, Cambridge, Rockwood, Guelph, Milton) sang their chant to the tune of “New Generation” while waving their purple banner and purple balloons.
- The CFC Windsor, though small in number, could not be defeated as they recited their chant while raising their brown streamers.
- Singles For Christ (SFC), with its blue balloons and blue flaglets, echoed the hall with its one phrase chant.
- The CFC Central Region (Downtown and Scarborough) with their black flag lets danced their chant to the tune of “Sure Foundation”.
- The CFC West Region (North York, Etobicoke, Brampton, Mississauga East and Mississauga West) proudly waved their orange flame and white dove flaglets as they sang their chant to the tune of “You Are Holy”.
As the crowd mellowed down, SFC presented their creative dance on evangelization. This was followed by Jun Clarito’s talk on Evangelization where he emphasized the three ways to evangelize, namely:
1. Focused/Strategic Evangelization
2. Integrated Evangelization
3. Pocket Evangelization
Sharers were integrated to the talk. Ricky Cuenca, President of ANCOP USA and CFC Country Coordinator for USA, and Junnie Arreza, CFC member, shared about focused/strategic evangelization. They both emphasized how the CFC’s work for the poor can be a great evangelization tool as 90 per cent of beneficiaries in Gawad Kalinga (GK) Villages attend Christian Life Programs and become members of the CFC community. “GK contribution is not only used to assist the beneficiaries in a financial way but it is also used to bring people to God,” said Ricky Cuenca.
Andrew and Rosalie Paz, CFC Brampton chapter leaders, shared about integrated evangelization. They spoke about using the play Prince of Egypt to evangelize the parents of the YFCs and parishioners in their area. They moved the crowd with their message of hope and perseverance, and concluded their sharing with a powerful statement: “We think as one. We work as one. We move as one. Forgetting what lies behind, we move forward in Christ.”
Nick Borja, CFC National Director, shared about pocket evangelization and the CFC work for the migrant workers in Saskatchewan, British Columbia and Alberta.
One of the highlights of the 2009 Evangelization Rally was the talk given by His Grace, Archbishop Thomas Christopher Collins of the Archdiocese of Toronto on the topic Families as Evangelizers in the Archdiocese of Toronto. He also gave the community Seven Goals that can help CFC share the light of Christ with others namely:
* Develop a foundation of prayer;
* Be thankful for the gifts of God and generously share it with our neighbours (stewardship);
* Engage everyone to active discipleship in our parishes – involve all groups (i.e., young, middle aged, old people) for the glory of God through service;
* Pray for and encourage specific vocations for consecrated service to the church as we are all a parish family;
* Know more about our faith, including the Catechism of the Catholic church (adult/faith formation);
* Support a deep and strengthened family life;
* Evangelize the Culture – reach out to our society through music, dance, creativity and art to praise the Lord.
The rally concluded with a concelebrated mass by His Grace, Archbishop Collins and eight other priests and the Deacon of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, Mr. Barry Wood. The priests were:
1. Rev. Xavier de Pinto – Pastor of St. Norbert Parish
2. Rev. Joseph Lourdusamy – Pastor of St. Philip Neri Parish
3. Rev. Luigi Accossato, I.M.C. – Associate Pastor of St. Andrew Parish
4. Rev. Daniel Mentessana, I.V.E. – Pastor of St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish
5. Rev. Ben Ebcas – Pastor of Our Lady of Assumption, Mission Director, Archdiocesan Filipino Catholic Mission
6. Rev. Mark Villanueva – Pastor of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish
7. Rev. Roselle R. Azares – Associate Pastor of St. Boniface Parish, CFC Toronto Spiritual Adviser
8. Rev. Dominic Barber – Vice Rector, St. Augustine’s Seminary
Immediately after the mass, Efren Baria, SFC Canada National Coordinator, led the crowd to a spirit-filled and dynamic Praisefest.
With smiling faces and an inspired spirit, CFC members left the Grand Baccus Banquet Centre determined more than ever to win more souls for Christ in answer to God’s call.
In the words of His Grace, Archbishop Collins, “Our life is like an arrow. As evangelizers, we have to live our life fully engaged. We are richly blessed with tradition to catch the fire of Christ and to share the light of Christ with others.”
