40 Days For Life
From February 25 – April 5, our community will be one of many cities from coast to coast joining together for the most dynamic coordinated pro-life mobilization in history — 40 Days for Life.
40 Days for Life is a focused pro-life effort that consists of:
*40 days of prayer and fasting
*40 days of peaceful vigil
*40 days of community outreach

Bigger, Better, Brighter: GK Walk 2009

Preparations are underway for the 2009 GK WALK! This will be the 5th annual GK Walk, and it will be held on Sunday, August 23rd in Downtown Toronto for the 2nd time in a row. From modest beginnings, the GK WALK has grown to a major awareness and fund raising event held right in the heart of downtown Toronto.
GK or “Gawad Kalinga” translated means “giving care.” This year’s event is expected to be bigger and better not just in terms of coverage and participation but also in terms of anticipated pledges resulting from an unobstructed growth in awareness. Since 2003, we have collectively raised more than $5 million to build low cost homes and provide educational support for over 1,000 children. The organizers are aiming to build on the huge success of 2008’s GK Walk.
Last year’s success was due in no small part to the ardent participation of several partner organizations and groups who have embraced GK and who have sponsored their own GK villages.
New GK Walk sites and locations have been added this year. In Canada, we expect 2 additional walk sites: one in Regina, Saskatchewan and another in Windsor, Ontario. Last year, we successfully held simultaneous GK Walk events in 8 locations all over Canada and in 30 cities in the US. The small island of Bermuda, off the coast of Florida, in the Atlantic, will also be joining us this year for the first time. New locations are still being explored and we expect to officially announce additional sites shortly.
In the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), the 2009 GK Walk will be officially launched on March 7 at the Kalayaan Cultural Community Centre. Attendance is open to all GK advocates, supporters and friends. We have also invited partners, local officials, key corporate individuals and dignitaries to join us in this event.
The 2009 GK Walk is being organized by Ancop International (Canada), Inc. together with GK partners. Over the years, the GK model has proven to be a viable alternative solution to the blatant problem of poverty in the Philippines and in other parts of the world. Ancop’s vision of “partners transforming communities, changing lives” is in sync with GK’s simple strategy of providing homes for the homeless, livelihood for the out of work and the hungry, education for those who could not afford one, health care maintenance and values formation resulting in a life of hope, dignity, harmony and peace for every individual.
